Article: DB Netz AG supplementary services
The supplementary services provided by DB Netz AG include the services described in Section 5.4 of the DB Netz AG Network Statement (SNB).
DB Netz AG offers a range of supplementary services in addition to the mandatory services that are covered by the train path charge.
A separate charge as per the list of charges is levied for supplementary services.
DB Netz AG currently offers the following supplementary services:
- Stabling on railway tracks outside of assigned train paths
- Track serviceability analysis for oversize rolling stock
- Charge for the disclosure of framework agreements
- Traction current supply
- Verification of bridge compatibility
- Special consignment feasibility study
- Peripheral facilities on railway tracks
The performance characteristics of the individual supplementary services are documented in the Network Statement (SNB) under Section 5.4. Please refer to Section 6.2.2 of the Network Statement for the charging principles for these.
Stabling on railway tracks outside of assigned train paths
Stabling on railway tracks for more than 60 minutes outside of the period of time assigned with a train path in the sense of Section 1 (20) of the German Railway Regulation Act is a chargeable supplementary service on the part of DB Netz AG. DB Netz AG's right to charge arises in the event of actual stabling for more than 60 minutes unless the stop is due to DB Netz AG. Stabling is only possible if it is not contradicted by any other claim to train path usage.

The preparation of a track serviceability analysis for oversize rolling stock as per Section 2.5.2 of the Network Statement is a chargeable supplementary service on the part of DB Netz AG. After a track serviceability analysis, DB Netz AG ensures that running is possible with the analysed profile.
End of expander contentCharge for disclosure of framework agreements
At the AP's request, DB Netz AG discloses an anonymised version of the main features of the framework agreements concluded on the route or routes being inquired about. The main features of a framework agreement include the agreed itinerary, agreed tolerance margin, time situation regarding framework agreement capacity, agreed term and termination time of the framework agreement.
End of expander contentTraction current supply
Supplying the AP or the involved RU with traction current is not a service provided by DB Netz AG. The necessary facilities are operated by DB Energie GmbH, which also performs the services related to the facilities for the Access Party or involved RU. Further information is provided on the Internet at www.dbnetze.com/energie.
End of expander contentVerification of bridge compatibility
To assess the deployment of trains (new rolling stock, existing rolling stock after conversion in the event of a change in geometry and axle load), verification of static and dynamic bridge compatibility must be applied for by the Access Party. Service provision is carried out in the form of a multi-stage assessment process in which it is verified that bridges and bridge structures can be crossed by trains within the scope of the required safety level. If the resulting verification of compatibility imposes conditions (e.g. reduction of maximum speed) on the crossing of bridge structures and partial bridge structures, vehicle-related line release is issued.
The dynamic analysis of bridge structures to rule out resonance behaviour is a chargeable supplementary service on the part of DB Netz AG.
End of expander content"Special consignment feasibility study"
Consignments that make particular demands on the infrastructure due to their exterior dimension, their weight or their characteristics (load-bearing capacity of bridge structures, line classes, vehicle clearance gauge, etc.), or which can only be transported subject to special technical or operational conditions, necessitate a special consignment feasibility study. The preparation of a special consignment feasibility study as per Sections 2.5 and 4.7.1 of the Network Statement is a chargeable supplementary service on the part of DB Netz AG if, in the case consignments that violate the loading gauge, including the restriction values of Tables 2₁ and 2₃ (UIC Loading Guidelines Volume 1), the loading gauge is exceeded beyond the outline shown as per Annex 5.4.2.
End of expander contentPeripheral facilities on railway tracks
DB Netz AG peripheral facilities are chargeable supplementary services on the part of DB Netz AG.
This includes the following peripheral facilities, insofar as they are available on railway tracks:
- Compressed air pillars
Different types of compressed air pillars are available.
- Compressed air pillars without a power connection are used as an external compressed air supply to quickly fill the compressed air systems of rolling stock without an operating traction unit.
- Compressed air pillars with a 230 V power connection additionally supply the radio remote control of mobile brake testers with electricity. Mobile brake testers are used to fill the compressed air systems of railway vehicles and carry out brake tests. The interface is defined as the coupling (coupling head) of the compressed air pillar and its power supply unit. The mobile brake tester belongs to the AP or the involved RU. The AP or the involved RU provides the compressed air hose for connecting the rolling stock to the mobile brake tester. Any fastener that may be required for the mobile brake tester at the compressed air pillar is part of the DB Netz AG facility.
The compressed air hoses required to supply the vehicles are provided by DB Netz AG, apart from the compressed air hoses for connecting mobile brake testers, which are not provided by DB Netz AG.
- Boarding aids
Boarding aids are used to overcome the difference in height between the vehicle and the surrounding ground level.
- Shore supply points 230 V or 400 V
Shore supply points with a voltage of 230 V or 400 V supply the external energy required to keep traction units and power cars warm. The facility consists of a supply cable between the distributor and Shore supply point as well as the Shore supply point (housing, meter if necessary, plug and socket, fuses). The AP or the involved RU is responsible for the provision and safe operation of the connecting cable between the Shore supply point and the vehicle. Energy consumption is billed within the framework of the ancillary and consumption costs directly by DB Energie GmbH (see Section 4.1.4 of the Network Statement for Service Facilities (Special Part)).
- Water filling pillars
Water filling pillars are used to supply vehicles with drinking water. They are to be used only to fill the vehicles' drinking water storage tanks. The hoses required to supply water to the vehicles are provided by DB Netz AG. The water supply is operated by DB Netz AG. Water consumption is billed within the framework of the ancillary and consumption costs (see Section 4.1.4 of the Network Statement for Service Facilities (Special Part)).
- Traction unit stabling on special traction unit stabling sidings
The stabling of traction units on special traction unit stabling sidings enables the regular and uninterrupted stabling of traction units during operating breaks lasting longer than three hours. Traction unit storage sidings are offered either with or without peripheral facilities (e.g. absorption matting, containment tub system) based on the environmental protection regulations. DB Netz AG carries out a risk assessment to determine whether peripheral facilities are necessary.
The use of these facilities is permitted unless this is contradicted by any other train path usage right.
